Crane Certification Questions

Quick answers about annuals, quadrennials, service-truck inspections and scheduling.

Does my crane require Cal/OSHA certification?

California requires certification by a licensed certifying agency for covered cranes and derricks exceeding the applicable 3-ton rated-capacity threshold. Call with the make, model and rated capacity if you are unsure.

How often is certification required?

Covered active cranes generally have annual certification inspections, with a quadrennial inspection and required load testing every four years.

What is the difference between annual and quadrennial?

The quadrennial is the more extensive four-year certification event and includes the required load testing. Annual certification inspections occur between quadrennials.

My service-truck crane is under 3 tons. Can you still inspect it?

Yes. An insurance carrier, customer, general contractor or jobsite may require an independent professional third-party inspection even if the unit does not otherwise require Cal/OSHA crane certification.

Do you come to our yard or jobsite?

Yes. Inspections are performed onsite throughout Northern California.

Do you charge travel?

There is no travel charge within 180 miles of Robert's location. Contact American Crane Certification for pricing outside that area.

Do you handle fleets?

Yes. Multiple cranes or crane-equipped service trucks can be scheduled together to reduce downtime and simplify inspection planning.

How do I verify your accreditation?

American Crane Certification is listed in the California Department of Industrial Relations crane certifier database under accreditation #413.
